Our Spain & Portugal Adventure is designed for riders who want far more than standard tourist routes — it’s about exceptional roads, incredible scenery, and a fully immersive riding experience from start to finish.
You’ll ride some of the most celebrated motorcycling roads in Europe, including the sweeping bends of the N621 (Spain), the flowing, rhythmic curves of the legendary N222 (Portugal), and the exhilarating mountain stretches of the AS-14 (Asturias). In the Serra da Estrela National Park, the riding becomes even more dramatic, with high-altitude roads that carve through vast, open landscapes and rugged peaks.
Alongside these iconic routes, we also weave in lesser-known roads that are cherished by local riders and experienced tourers — quieter, more flowing, and often more rewarding. The result is a journey where every day in the saddle feels engaging and immersive, with constantly changing scenery, smooth technical sections, and roads that are made to be ridden, not just travelled.

From staying in the heart of Salamanca, where you can wander the beautiful old town after dinner, to mountain retreats in Cangas de Onís surrounded by the dramatic scenery of the Picos de Europa, each stop is part of the experience. In Guimarães, you’ll enjoy the atmosphere of one of Portugal’s most historic towns, combined with superb accommodation, great food, and the perfect place to unwind after a rewarding day’s ride.
You will visit an outstanding collection of destinations that showcase the very best of Spanish and Portuguese culture, history, and scenery.
From the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela, with its world-famous cathedral and historic old town, to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Guimarães, often regarded as the birthplace of Portugal, each stop is rich in atmosphere and heritage. You also explore the elegant streets of Salamanca and the charming historic town of Lerma, both offering a deep sense of tradition and architectural beauty.
The adventure is complemented by spectacular natural scenery, from the dramatic peaks of the Picos de Europa and the rugged landscapes around Cangas de Onís, to the vast highlands of the Serra da Estrela, giving you a true sense of the diverse and captivating landscapes these two countries have to offer.
Tour Overview
You will start your adventure in Plymouth, catching the Pont Aven overnight ferry which takes us to the Port of Santander. Meeting in the bar in the evening we will get to know each other before retiring to our cabins for the night.
After docking, we head to our first hotel, using a short hop on the motorway to get us used to riding on the right hand side of the road.
We then head along large stretches of the Camino which traverses some amazing country roads that take us to our lovely overnight stop which is located in the heart of the mountains.
We follow the Camino which is a route that pilgrims take that leads to one of our destinations in Santiago de Compostela. We will stop here for 2 nights so we can enjoy everything the city has to offer. There is also a fabulous ride out if you wish to see more fantastic roads and scenery.
We cross the border into Portugal leading through the hills of Western Galacia and the Da Pendad-Geres National Park. This is truly amazing! We then head to Guimarães; a world heritage city.
Riding through the Douro Valley you will see beautiful fields full of grapes, ready for making wine. Following and traversing the Douro River, this is an awe inspiring day.
We then head to the Serra de Estrela; a national park. You will be some of the highest motorcyclists in Portugal as we ascend to over 1900 metres for our overnight stay.
Heading back into Spain through the Sierra de la Culebra hunting reserve. This is where you will see truly ‘rustic’ countryside with some narrow streets and sublime scenery.
We then start to head north again and visit the acclaimed Riaño which almost looks like Switzerland with its aqua reservoir and beautiful mountains, not to mention that this is a Mecca for motorcyclists with its wonderful twisty roads.
Heading back over the Picos de Europa, taking in the most glorious sights and roads to keep you entertained before heading back to Santander to our ferry home, but of course not on boring roads, we have found an incredible gorge to ride through.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Ferry Crossing
Starting in the UK we take our ferry to Santander where there is plenty to do onboard. You will have a cabin with ensuite to relax in.
Enjoying an evening in the bar we will get the chance to meet our fellow tourers and talk about what will happen on our arrival in Spain. 
Day 2 - 195 km / 120 Miles
After seeing the Picos from our ferry on arrival at Santander, we have a leisurely ride to our first destination taking in parts of the national park on the way.
This gives us a taste of the delights that are to come.
Day 3 - 257 km / 160 Miles
We head off through small Spanish towns in unadulterated empty roads with smooth new tarmac following some of the Pilgrims Camino route.
Day 4 - 290 km / 180 Miles
We ride through national parks where you can see uninterrupted hills and fields which follow more of the Camino route and takes us to the city of Santiago de Compostela where we stay for 2 nights.
Day 5 - Explore / Ride Out
Today is a fantastic day to take the day off and explore the city, soak in the atmosphere and culture or if you want more riding, you can venture out on a wonderful ride out to see more of this part of Spain.
Day 6 - 275 km / 170 Miles
Today we cross through western Galicia and cross the border through the Da Peneda-Gerês National Park before heading towards the world heritage city of Guimarães.
Day 7 - 290 km / 180 Miles
The Douro Valley, snake your way through the valley, traverse the river and head through the most wonderful wine growing region you will ever see. We then head up into the Serra da Estrela national park to find our hotel for the night.
Day 8 - 351 km / 218 Miles
Leaving the Serra da Estrela behind, we follow the valleys, vineyards, and quiet villages. The road flows effortlessly, offering both sweeping views and hidden corners to enjoy.
It’s a ride that feels as relaxed as it is rewarding, ending in the historic city of Salamanca.
Day 9 - Explore / Ride Out
Today's ride feels like a secret waiting to be discovered.
Taking in hidden gems past the Presa de Gabriel y Galán, and rolling hills, awesome corners and landscapes few ever see.
You can also explore the wonderful city of Salamanca at your leisure.
Day 10 - 264 km / 164 Miles
Today you ride deep into Spain’s heartland along quiet, winding roads, past timeless villages and open landscapes towards our overnight stop.
Day 11 - 255 km / 158 Miles
Today is your chance to really enjoy the pristine tarmac and views of the Picos mountains.
Take in the iconic sights and roads on the way to our beautiful overnight stop.
Day 12 - 322 km / 200 Miles
Riding through the north of Spain we are treated to some great roads with beautiful scenery all around us as we head towards Santander to hop on our ferry for the overnight crossing home.
Day 13 - Ferry Crossing
After our ferry crossing, it's time to say goodbye to each other and head our separate ways to return home to recount our adventures to family and friends.

Common Questions
Is fuel readily available?
Spain is an awesome country and there is fuel throughout our routes. We plan our routes around coffee and lunch stops as well as fuel stops, especially if we are heading into national parks and the like. Our guides will always know where the fuel is, so don’t worry.
Can I eat an evening meal earlier than 8pm in Spain?
In Spain, their day is structured very differently to that of the UK, so eating in the evening is often later. We plan our evening meals around this and often eat at around 8:30pm.
How long is the ferry crossing and what is it like?
The ferry crossing is about 20 hours from port to port.
