Frequently Asked Questions
You will probably have a lot of questions before you go on tour, from what to take, through to what our tours are all about and how are they run.
We have listed a few of the most common questions we get asked. If you have further questions we would love to hear from you.
How do your tours work and do I have to follow the guide?
We believe that our tours should be fun and relaxed allowing you to stop where you want to for pictures, leg stretches or coffee. We always lead from behind, which if you haven’t toured this way sounds strange, but after years of leading tours, we have found that it’s much more relaxed for people to navigate their own way, either in groups or individually with the comfort of a guide following along behind.
In reality, if you were able to pinch and zoom real life on a map, our guides are never more than about 15 minutes behind. You will find that everyone will arrive at much the same time at coffee and lunch stops.
If on a tour you have seen a ‘must see’ place or thing of interest, all we ask is that you let the guide know on the morning, so that they don’t worry about you throughout the day. Of course they will be on the phone and on hand should you need them.
What documents do i need to take with me on a tour?
Our tours are run throughout Europe and you will need your passport, driving licence, motorbike insurance and break down cover. You will also need recovery and medical insurance (just to make sure that in the event of anything happen, your covered).
You will need to take all of your documents as well as your V5 (your bike registration document, in original form) and your MOT (test certificate for the bikes roadworthiness in the UK).
We would advise you to take not only all of these documents in paper form but also in digital form.
What should I pack?
If you think that you will be riding your motorbike (or riding as a pillion), then don’t pack too much! We have found less is more as you will not need fresh clothes every night and during the day you will be wearing your motorbike gear. All of the hotels we use have washing facilities too.

Should I take cash with me and how much?
Money is always a divisive subject, although what cash to take on a tour is always a tough one. All of the hotels we visit take card payment as well as cash and most stops we use do the same. Contactless payments are now a thing and this is the same in all of the countries that our tours visit.
We advise that you take some cash as it’s always handy to have it for those rare occasions that a card is not accepted. Having a bank account or card that allows you to add currency or use abroad is also our recommendation, as with these cards you often get the better currency conversion rate.
Remember to always pay in the local currency though as its often cheaper than paying in Sterling.
Is my money protected?
Yes, the money you pay to us remains untouched in our Client Trust Account until you ‘return’ from your tour.
Do we ride everyday on a tour?
We don’t. On all of our tours we make sure that there are stops where you have days off so you can soak up the culture, enjoy the hotel facilities or just relax. Of course we always plan a ride out for those that want to ride too!
It's my first tour in Europe, do I need experience?
Not at all. All of our tours are designed in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to allow you to enjoy your tour as you want to. The riding is sometimes technical but we plan some of the best routes so that they can be enjoyed by seasoned tourers and novices alike.
What meals are included on tours?
Great question! Where we have ferry crossings from Plymouth to Santander, we provide breakfast in the al a carte restaurant. This helps us start the day!
On all tours we provide the first meal which we call our welcome meal, a meal in the middle of the tour and then a meal on our last evening on tour. We believe that this is a great way to bond together as a group but also provide the space and relaxed atmosphere for you to choose where to eat. Our guides will reserve a table at the hotel restaurants throughout the tour.
Do you have to have a specific motorbike?
Typically we welcome all sorts of bikes from small to huge tourers. We would say that you should have a bike that is over 500cc and has a fuel tank that won’t leave you thirsty after 50 miles, but that being said, we have had people with 125cc motorbikes on tour with us who have enjoyed the trip just as much as others. The main thing is that your bike must be able to sustain the speed limit and that a consideration is given to the amount of luggage you want to carry.

Has RiderCamTV Tours ridden the road or just sell the tours?
All of our tours have been ridden by our guides many times before. We have stayed in all of the hotels and stopped at all of the stops so that we can ensure that your tour is as good as we can make it. Of course sometimes restaurants and coffee shops close without us knowing, so we always tweak our tours as well as having other stops up our sleeve just in case!
Do you hire bikes?
We don’t unfortunately, but we can point you in the right direction to hire one from a great company.
What do I do if I have special dietary requirements
Just let us know and we can make sure that all the hotels on our tour know.
Is there secure parking at all hotels on tours
Most of our hotels have secure parking, some have underground parking. To be extra secure, we would advise taking disc locks and anything you feel that would assist in the security of your motorbike.
Do I have to pay a deposit or pay the full amount to secure a place on a tour?
As with anything, ensuring you place on a tour requires a payment of some sort. On each of our tours, you have the option to pay a deposit to secure your place on the tour and then pay the remaining balance at a later date, usually 12 weeks before your tour starts.
Will I get an itinerary for the tour?
Yes you will. You will receive a comprehensive detailed itinerary for the whole adventure with your tour pack.
Do you have a special price for a shared room?
Yes, we can. We offer a double room for pillions and their riders as those tend to be a couple and a single room (this may be a single, double or twin) for a single rider.
We are also able to accommodate 2 riders that would like to share a room on our tours. In order to avoid disappointment we require both riders sharing the room to book at the same time.
Is it just men that go on your tours?
Not at all. We have lots of ladies that come too. Some ride their own bikes and some are pillions. Everyone is a valued member of the tour.
How many people are on the tours?
We typically see between 10 and 15 motorbikes on a tour, although sometimes there may be more. We like smaller groups as we think it’s much better to get to know everyone on tour so together you make lasting friendships and memories.
I am new to touring, will this mean I will slow people up?
Not at all. Our tours are relaxed and are ridden at your own pace. In a large group there is always a mixture of riding abilities and that’s great. You will be able to follow your route and stop wherever you feel you want to and see the views, have coffee and enjoy the ride. All supported by our guides throughout.
Do you have a support vehicle?
No we don’t but we do have awesome guides with a wealth of specialist touring experience, so you are not on your own.
Do the guides repair or fix motorbikes if something happens?
As a rule no we don’t. None of our guides are mechanics and as such it is the responsibility of the motorbike rider/owner to fix their bike. That said, our guides will never leave you stranded and will help as much as possible in any eventuality.
