From the sweeping roads of the Harz Mountains — famous for the mystical Walpurgis Night celebrations — and the stunning scenery surrounding Möhne Dam and Eder Dam, to the incredible medieval setting of Colditz Castle and the fairytale beauty of Eltz Castle, every day offers something unforgettable.
You’ll also ride through the magnificent Vosges Mountains, visit the moving Douaumont Ossuary, and relax beside the crystal waters of Titisee, making this an adventure packed with history, culture, and spectacular scenery.
Tour Overview
Come and ride with us to the Harz mountains in Central Germany. With excellent roads this area is one of the jewels in the crown of Germanys excellent roads. We believe this is an outstanding adventure.
We begin our adventure by riding through France and Belgium and on to Germany where we have the opportunity to visit the Mohne Dam made famous by 617Sqn RAF and their bombing raid to destroy it in May 1943 using the infamous Bouncing Bomb
The tour then rides into the Harz mountains used as the backdrop to many a children’s story written by the Brothers Grimm. In Lower Saxony we will be based for three nights in the town of Braunlage.
There is a ride to Colditz castle used during the WW2 to house the most dangerous prisoners from the Allied forces.
In Braunlage the medieval celebration of Walpurgis is believed to be the night local witches meet on the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz mountains. To protect themselves people would light fires on hillsides to ward off evil and to protect their livestock. This dates back to pre-christian times, and is held on the last day of April each year.
On leaving Braunlage we head towards Koblenz which will be our base for two nights. On the way we pass the Eder Dam another dam targeted by the RAF during WW2.
While in Koblenz we have a ride to visit the stunning castle of Burg Eltz which was used as the blueprint for Disneys Cinderella movie. The castle has been owned by the same family since the 12th century.
The ride is a smorgasbord of amazing views of the Moselle river and its vineyards. On returning to Koblenz you have the chance to visit a proper fortress in the shape of Castle Marksburg standing high above the river.
On leaving Koblenz we head towards Baden Baden a famous town known throughout Roman times for its hot springs.
Before riding across the border into France we get to ride the world famous B500 with its fantastic scenery and hairpin bends and sublime tarmac. Our route then heads towards the Vosges mountains filled with iconic roads used by the Tour De France.
We now head north towards the tunnel but taking in the stunning Ossuary at Verdun a poignant reminder that we are here on this earth for a short time so let’s make the best of it.
The Kyffauser is a series of 88 bends and is located South East of the Harz and a popular route used by local motorbike riders.
Medieval castles such as Burg Eltz which has been owed by the same family for the last 900 years. Castle Marksburg stands sentinel above the river Rhine and is one of the principle sites of the Rhine Gorge UNESCO World Heritage site.
On this tour we visit two dams (the Mohne and Eder) which featured in the Dambusters operation during the second World War.
The Vosges Mountains in the west of France and just over the border from Germany are famous for appearing in the Tour de France. With fantastically well looked after roads the Vosges provide some of the best roads in Europe. Surrounded by intense forests the view from Le Grand Ballon is stunning, weather permitting.
Our route North takes in some special areas such as the famous abandoned MotoGP circuit 5 miles west of Reims in the Champagne region of France close to Gueux.
We cannot ride through France and fail to notice the number of cemetery’s dedicated to the men and women who lost their lives during WW1 so we visit the Ossuary at Verdun.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Meet up
Meet up at (Premier Inn Eureka Park Ashford) prior to departure tomorrow.
Day 2 - 378 km / 235 Miles
Ride to the Euro Tunnel then through France and Belgium into Germany to our first hotel close to Heimbach on the edge of the Eifel National Park.
Day 3 - 238 km / 148 Miles
Today we ride through some stunning scenery passing the Mohne Dam to our nights rest in Brilon Wald.
Day 4 - 190 km / 120 miles
Today we reach our base for three nights in Braunlage where we witness the purging of the witches celebrations tomorrow.
Day 5 - Explore / Ride Out
Ride out day or if you prefer a day off the bike to wander around the town and see the preparations for the Walpurgis event this evening.
The ride out is around some of the best biking roads the area has to offer.
Day 6 - Explore / Ride Out
Ride out day or if you prefer stay local.
Todays ride out is to the famous Colditz Castle.
Day 7 - 345 km / 214 Miles
We pass the second of our Dambusters dams, the Eder. Our hotel tonight is in Koblenz where we will be based for two nights.
Day 8 - Explore / Ride Out
Ride out day or if you prefer take the time to have a wander around the city of 115,000 people and see the Deutsche's Eck, or German Corner, where the Rhine and Moselle converge.
For those who are riding, the route takes you along and across the Moselle river to the stunning Burg Eltz Castle and on the return journey take time to visit the Marksburg castle which is part of the Rhine Gorge UNESO World Heritage Site.
Day 9 - 246 km / 153 Miles
Today we follow the Rhine valley past vineyards and wonderful scenery then to the edge of the Black Forest and our stop for tonight in Baden-Baden.
Day 10 - 273 km / 170 Miles
We spend the first part of the day riding the iconic B500 then cross in to France where we get our first glimpses of the Vosges mountains.
Day 11 - 337 km / 210 Miles
Leaving the Vosges today by some stunning road towards the Ossuary at Verdun, a memorial to the Men in Mud and the battle of Passchendaele. Our hotel tonight is in the champagne region of France.
Day 12 - 300 km / 188 Miles
Heading north we ride towards the tunnel at Calais and the end of our tour.

Common Questions
Do I have to decide what I want to do on the rest days now?
No. Our rest days incorporate lovely locations for you to explore on foot as well as an option to ride some more glorious roads. You can of course stay and enjoy the facilities at the hotel and relax. All of which you can decide on the day!
My bike has a small fuel tank how will I manage?
Don’t worry at all as there is fuel throughout our tours, but if there are days when you need fill up before riding a mountain pass or national park, our guides will make sure you know where to fill up.
Will I need to buy a Crit'Air sticker for France?
There are so many conflicting reports on the internet, that we would advise that you do buy one. The Crit’Air sticker is for your specific bike and lasts for the length of your ownership of that bike. They cost under £10 with postage to your door. Do buy only from the French Government website which is here.
Can I book this tour and share a room?
Yes of course we are able to accommodate 2 riders that would like to share a room on our tours. In order to avoid disappointment we require both riders sharing the room to book at the same time.
