The excitement for the Harz & Colditz Escape Adventure 2026 began long before the first engine fired into life. For many riders and pillions, the arrival of the RiderCamTV Tours goodie box marked the official countdown to another incredible adventure.
Almost immediately, the private tour WhatsApp group sprang into life. New friendships began to form, familiar faces reconnected, and the anticipation grew with every passing day. As riders studied their comprehensive tour books—packed with route information, travel guidance, packing advice, legal requirements and country-specific tips—it became clear that this wasn’t simply a motorcycle trip. It was the start of an experience.
Every aspect of the adventure had been meticulously planned. Daily routes, scenic roads, coffee stops, lunch locations and navigation points were carefully selected to ensure riders enjoyed the very best roads, regardless of their preferred navigation system.
The tour officially began at the welcome dinner near the Eurotunnel. The room buzzed with laughter, stories and animated conversation. It quickly became apparent that when a group shares a passion for motorcycling, strangers become friends remarkably quickly.
Across the Channel and Into Adventure
An early start saw the group heading for the Eurotunnel. Thanks to the Flexiplus service, check-in was effortless and relaxed. With the bikes fuelled and the riders equally energised, excitement levels were high as the group prepared to leave the UK behind.
For some, it was their first time touring abroad. Having experienced guides Mark and Graham on hand throughout the journey provided reassurance and confidence from the very first mile.
Emerging from the tunnel into France always feels a little magical. Suddenly, riders find themselves on the right-hand side of the road, heading towards distant horizons and new adventures.
The first overseas destination was Simmerath, Germany. The journey provided a perfect introduction to continental touring, with well-timed breaks and steadily improving scenery. Upon arrival, the group enjoyed secure bike parking, warm hospitality and spectacular surroundings.
As the evening unfolded, riders relaxed over excellent food, local hospitality and desserts that proved impossible to resist.
Dams, Twisty Roads and Luxury Hotels
After a hearty German breakfast and daily briefing, the group departed for Willingen.
The roads immediately began to showcase why Germany remains a favourite destination among touring motorcyclists. Flowing curves, beautiful landscapes and charming villages provided constant entertainment, while bakery coffee stops introduced riders to a new challenge—resisting freshly baked German cakes.
One of the day’s standout moments came at the impressive Möhne Dam. Holding an astonishing 135 million cubic metres of water and forever linked to the legendary Dambusters raid of World War II, the dam offered both breathtaking views and fascinating history.
The day concluded at the stunning Nature Hotel Hochheide, where luxury and comfort provided the perfect reward after another exceptional day in the saddle.
Into the Heart of the Harz Mountains
The route from Willingen to Braunlage delivered some of the finest riding of the entire tour.
As riders swept through fragrant pine forests and endless twisting roads, smiles could be seen inside every helmet. Traffic was almost non-existent, allowing the group to fully immerse themselves in some of Germany’s best motorcycling roads.
Stops at observation towers, waterfalls and scenic viewpoints added even more variety to an already spectacular day.
Perched high above Braunlage, the Ahorn Hotel became home for the next three nights. Offering magnificent views across the town and surrounding mountains, it provided an ideal base for exploring the Harz region.
Walpurgis Night and the Spirit of Braunlage
The timing of the tour coincided perfectly with Braunlage’s famous Walpurgis Night celebrations.
Traditionally marking the arrival of spring, the festival transforms the town into a vibrant celebration of music, costumes, food and entertainment. The streets filled with visitors enjoying parades, live performances and a carnival atmosphere that continued late into the evening.
The entire group embraced the festivities and experienced a unique cultural event that few motorcyclists ever get to witness.
Colditz Castle and a Well-Earned Rest
One of the highlights of the tour was the flexibility built into the Braunlage stay.
Riders could choose between rest days, exploring the town, enjoying the hotel’s spa facilities, or joining optional rides to iconic destinations such as the legendary Colditz Castle.
Whether relaxing by the pool, exploring local attractions or adding extra miles to their adventure, everyone found their perfect way to enjoy the region.
Rivers, Castles and New Friendships
The journey continued westward towards Koblenz.
By now, many riders had naturally formed small riding groups, travelling at a comfortable pace while regrouping throughout the day at planned coffee stops and evening meals. The camaraderie that had begun at the welcome dinner had grown into genuine friendships.
A lunchtime stop at the impressive Edersee Dam offered yet another memorable landmark, with a surprisingly competitive round of crazy golf entertaining some members of the group.
Arriving in Koblenz, riders were greeted by one of Germany’s most spectacular views where the Rhine and Moselle rivers meet.
Along the Rhine and Into the Black Forest
After a well-earned break in Koblenz, the route followed the Rhine through picturesque vineyards and charming riverside villages.
The roads seemed to cling to the riverbanks, offering endless panoramic views. A charming ferry crossing added another memorable touch before the route entered the legendary Black Forest.
Many riders would later describe these roads as some of the finest they had ever experienced.
At Baden-Baden, the welcoming beer garden of Gasthaus Auerhahn provided the perfect setting to reflect on another extraordinary day.
The Legendary B500 and the Vosges Mountains
The next day featured one of Europe’s most famous motorcycling roads—the B500.
The route delivered everything riders dream of: sweeping bends, technical corners, stunning lakes and mile after mile of perfectly engineered motorcycling bliss.
Crossing into France, the adventure continued through the magnificent Vosges Mountains.
The evening brought relaxation at Logis Hotel Les Chatelmines, complete with spa facilities and excellent dining. It was also a day when the professionalism of the RiderCamTV Tours team truly shone. When one rider encountered a mechanical issue, the guides handled the situation quickly and efficiently, ensuring both rider and machine were safely looked after.
Above the Clouds
Leaving the Vosges hotel behind, the group climbed towards the Grand Ballon, the highest peak in the mountain range at 1,424 metres.
The weather added an extra layer of adventure as riders found themselves climbing through cloud and mist before emerging into breathtaking mountain scenery.
The roads were wonderfully quiet, twisting endlessly through spectacular landscapes that seemed purpose-built for motorcycles.
For many, this would become one of the defining memories of the entire tour.
A Moving Final Day
The final riding day began with mixed emotions. Nobody wanted the adventure to end.
The route towards the Eurotunnel still had one powerful experience left to offer—the Ossuary at Verdun.
This remarkable memorial left a profound impression on the entire group. The scale, history and atmosphere of the site created one of the most emotional and reflective moments of the tour.
From there, a combination of scenic roads and strategic toll routes ensured a smooth journey back to Calais.
Soon enough, riders found themselves back in the Eurotunnel, emerging once again onto the left-hand side of the road and beginning the final ride home.
